VISIT OF PARLIAMENTARY  STANDING COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE

We would like to inform the Members that the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce under the Chairmanship of Shri Naresh Gujral, Member of Parliament, along with the Officers of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, visited Mumbai on January 16 & 17, 2018, to meet Industry Associations to discuss and understand the ‘Impact of Cheap Chinese Consumer Goods on the Indian Industry, including Garments & Textiles’.

We are glad to inform you that the Parliamentary Standing Committee invited the Association to the Meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Hotel Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai. An elaborate Note on the Subject was prepared and circulated to the Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee.

Mr Rajesh Masand, Vice President, Mr D K Nair, Advisor & Mr P Chandrasekharan, Secretary, attended the said Meeting on behalf of the Association. The Points raised in the said Note as well as the Points expressed by Mr Rajesh Masand, Vice President and Mr D K Nair, Advisor, were well received by the Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee.

BENGAL GLOBAL BUSINESS SUMMIT  (BGBS) 2018

We are glad to inform you that the Govt of West Bengal, through their Partner Chamber, Merchants Chamber of Commerce & Industry, invited Mr Rahul Mehta, President, to Participate as one of the Members on the Panel Discussion in the Sectorial Session on Textile & Apparel, held on January 16, 2018, at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata.

REPRESENTATIONS  / CIRCULARS

The Association has, once again, made a Representation to Directorate General of Goods & Service Tax, Dept of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, New Delhi, vide Letter No. G-2 / 466 / 18 dated January 15, 2018, requesting them to issue Clarification on GST Rate of Quilts since Quilts have been Classified under different Rate Schedules and attract GST Rates ranging from 5 per cent to 18 per cent. Subsequently, Mr Rahul Mehta, President, Mr Mohan Sadhwani, Executive Director and Mr J K Arora, Regional Secretary, Northern India, also met Ms Babni Lal, Economic Advisor, Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India on January 17, 2018, and urged her to take up this matter including Treatment of ‘Goods being Returned’, Reconciliation of Stock sent to the Job Worker as well as stock received, Payment of Supplies within 180 Days, etc., with the Directorate General of Goods & Service Tax, Ministry of Finance, at the earliest so as to get a suitable Clarification/ Amendment issued for the benefit of the Industry.
